General Guidelines for Admissions 2020-21
Before you decide to apply for your child/children’s admission to Rajghat Besant School (RBS), we urge you to click on this link: Intent of the school. This will give you some idea of the vision of the founder of the school J Krishnamurti and the kind of school it is. We hope that it will help you determine whether this would be the right school for your child/children.
New admissions to RBS are mainly in class 3 (Age limit on 1st April of the year of admission: Minimum 7 yrs. 4 months, maximum 8 yrs. 3 months), class 4 and Class 11. Admission to other classes will only be considered if there happen to be vacancies.
RBS is primarily a residential school. We offer the option of day scholar status only for new admissions in classes 3, 4 and 5. Please note that all children, even if admitted as day scholars, will have to become boarders from class 6 onwards.
Application form for admission
The admission form and prospectus may be downloaded from the school website. All completed forms should be submitted along with the requisite fee of Rs.1,000/- in cash, or by demand draft in favor of KFI Rajghat Besant School, payable at Varanasi.
The following documentation must be submitted along with the filled admission form:
1. A copy of original date of birth certificate
2. The most recent school report including descriptive comments and the latest mark sheet of unit/half yearly examinations in the current class, or from the previous year’s final report.
Please note that if these documents are not submitted with the application, or if the form is not completely filled, it is liable to be rejected.
After the form is submitted
RBS’ Admissions Committee goes through each form carefully. A call letter is sent to short-listed candidates, inviting the parents and the child for an interaction with the teachers/administrators in the school. This interaction is a mandatory part of the admission process, and both parents are expected to come for it along with the child. Its purpose includes the following: for the school to get to know the family better, to assess the child’s readiness for life in RBS (especially as a boarding student) and for prospective parents and students to visit the campus and meet people here if they have not done so already.
The process includes group interactions (for the children), individual meetings with children (along with their parents) and written tests. Class XI admissions will include short admission tests in three subjects that the candidate would like to take up for study. Students in other classes will be assessed for basic proficiency in Math and English. At the school’s discretion children may also be tested for their knowledge of Hindi, since they may have to take it up as their second language as per CBSE norms.
For any given child all these processes will take place on an assigned day (typically on Saturdays) in the morning and finish by lunch. Afterwards candidates and parents are welcome to have lunch in the school dining hall if they wish to.
The interactions will take place in successive weeks until our places are filled, beginning early December 2019. Communications regarding admission will be by email, within a few weeks of the date of interaction in the school.
